In 2016, The NI Family Business Forum held 'The Big Family Business Breakfast' celebrating the work and produce of family businesses from across Northern Ireland. During 2017 we intend to continue celebrating this vibrant sector but this time, we are going on the road with a series of regional breakfast events across NI over the next 12 months.

Last year the NI Family Business Forum held “The Big Family Business Breakfast” celebrating the work and produce of family businesses from across Northern Ireland.  This year however they intend to celebrate this vibrant sector by going on the road with a series of regional breakfast events across the province, over the next 12 months.

Harbinson Mulholland Chartered Accountants established the forum to give family businesses the opportunity to connect, exchange ideas and learn from each other in a friendly, sociable, and private setting.  Darren McDowell, Partner at Harbinson Mulholland says:

“It has often been said that of all businesses, those owned and managed by families can tend to show more resilience, with family members often playing an integral role in the company.  Therefore, our themes this year will all revolve around being ‘Resilient, Ready and Rolling up Your Sleeves.

“Family businesses account for a huge proportion of NI’s business sector, employ large numbers of people and contribute hugely to the financial wellbeing of local communities, with the Top 50 family businesses in NI employing almost 33,000 people.  We very much welcome Danske Bank who will be supporting the breakfast sessions this season to showcase the sector and we have lined up some fantastic speakers from very successful local family businesses, to share their stories,” said Darren.

The events will be hosted in partnership with Ulster University Business School and the Autumn programme will see the forum take to the road visiting Cookstown, Ballymena and Craigavon during October before the main forum session which will take place in Belfast on 14th November.

Rory Clarke, Head of Corporate Acquisition at Danske Bank, the Official Roadshow partner said: “Danske Bank is proud to count many of Northern Ireland’s leading family businesses among our customers. Family businesses are the backbone of the local economy and we are committed to supporting their continued growth.

“This initiative will see ‘The Big Family Breakfast’ go on the road for the first time, providing even more local businesses with the opportunity to come together, hear from each other and ultimately learn from each other.”

Each breakfast event will run from 8.30am-10.30am and guests will enjoy networking opportunities, and a delicious cooked breakfast whilst listening to a family business from the local area share their story.
