Meet one of our previous team members Tom, who joined us as a graduate.

Tom Swatman

Tom trained with Harbinson Mulholland after working 10 years in banking in the City of London. "When looking for a training contract, I wanted somewhere that would treat me as an individual, and that’s exactly what I got at HM."

Tom spent most of his time in the Audit & Accounts team but had 8 months in Tax and assisted with some Forensic cases. He also spent significant time on external secondments. "I found auditing whole companies and creating accounts from a trial balance intellectually satisfying and really helped with the exams – when you do double entry every day, it becomes second nature! Being on secondment allowed me to draw upon my significant previous experience and I enjoyed being thrown into the middle of a situation and working to improve things."

Tom now works for boutique Belfast M&A advisory firm, HNH Partners, performing financial due diligence, building financial models and advising clients in both buy-side and sell-side scenarios. "I'm grateful for the time I spent at HM - they are a highly regarded firm in the local market and I would recommend them to anyone considering training as a Chartered Accountant."
